Sub space
This is a term that people in the Kink lifestyle use, often. It is one of the only terms that has been consistently used with the same definition for over 20 years that I know of.
Just like with runners or other endurance exercisers, there can be a place that your mind drops into that is very different from normal reality during and after a session. It is often a place akin to right before you go to sleep. Your outward reactions will be off, often times sluggish or you will be non-responsive. Your body will go into a small form of shock, making it difficult for you to do anything for a while. It is a wonderful place to be, but it can be dangerous to try to do anything while in subspace, like drive a car.
There are some people who may refer to the same condition as slave shock, session orgasm and even just bliss. This is why aftercare is so important for those who are deep in subspace. I have seen a wonderfully blissful person become completely depressed or even become suicidal if they are not properly brought out of sub space.
If you are new to the kink scene, you may not know how you react to being in a session. Let your Dom know the level you have played to and how you felt afterwards. Even if you just did some light things just with yourself, knowing you fell asleep right after is important for your Dom to know. If you are going to a Pro Dom, it is even more important because She will have to schedule extra time with you to make sure you are functional before you leave.
Things to make sure you have to help you deal with sub space include: a blanket or large towel; water; Gatorade or other electrolyte drink; a bag or container to put your loose things into, such as glasses, wallet and phone; any medicines you may need, including inhalers; a friend to help you come down, if your Dom is not going to be available or you need a different person because of comfort.
Don’t be afraid of sub space. It is a wonderful place to be and is why many subs and bottoms come back for sessions. Just be prepared for it and let the Play flow.
Pack your aftercare kit up and I’ll warm the blanket for you.
